Biographical Info
Dr. Felipe Andrade is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology at Johns Hopkins. He obtained his MD degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Subsequently, Dr. Andrade received his Internal Medicine training at the National Medical Center, and trained in Rheumatology at the National Institute of Nutrition, both in Mexico City. He then relocated to Baltimore where he obtained his PhD degree in Immunology, under the tutelage of Dr. Antony Rosen, at Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Andrade’s research is focused on mechanisms of systemic autoimmune diseases, particularly as these relate to the role of cytotoxic granule proteases in autoimmunity and viral clearance, mechanisms of autoantigen citrullination and pathways that control immune effector functions in autoimmune diseases.
Dr. Andrade’s laboratory currently focuses on 2 principal areas: (i) Defining the mechanisms that generate citrullinated autoantigens in vivo in rheumatoid arthritis; and (ii) understanding the pathways that control the activity of the peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) enzymes in human neutrophils.
